A few of the cast members thought it was a scam. Madlyn told BuzzFeed the post was vague and she assumed it was just clickbait.

Their relationships had to be checked

The production team walked them through a vetting process to make sure the couples were on the show for the right reasons. Not only did they have meetings with their potential cast members, but they also talked to their friends and family.

Ultimatums creator Chris Coelen told E! News, “You can never be sure what someone’s truest, purest intentions are. But we certainly have enough experience trying to figure out if people aren’t being genuine, and we go through lots of time talking to them.

Jake was going to propose to April.

Before joining the show, Jake Cunningham planned to propose to April Melohn. The former couple had planned a two-week Caribbean cruise. The cruise took place when the show was filmed, so Jake canceled his plans.

“She didn’t know. Obviously I wanted it to be a surprise, and she had been bugging me the whole time,” Jake told BuzzFeed. Both Jake and April have moved on since the series ended.

The couples were encouraged to go about their daily lives during filming. The actors stuck to their usual routines, like going to work. Coelen shared that it helped them make objective decisions.

“We don’t tour with them 24/7, and we don’t keep them in a bubble, and we allow them to do their thing,” he explained. “Because when they do that, it really helps them make a real decision that’s right for them.”

The engagement in episode three was a surprise to everyone

Hunter Parr and Nate Ruggles proposed in episode three, one of The ultimatumthe most surprising moments. April shared that she didn’t want to be there because she spent most of her time hanging out with Nate and Hunter.

The production team was also shocked. The team didn’t tell the couples they couldn’t propose until the experiment was over. Lauren told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Nate proposed again after leaving the show. “He knew as well as I did that our TV engagement was NOT cute and needed a redo,” she said.

The producers chose who issued the ultimatum

Lauren and Nate spoke to the your poor daddy podcast and gave them insight into the ultimatum process. The week before filming, the producers told them the show’s “working title” and explained that the premise is that one person wants to get married while the other hesitates.

According to Lauren, the producers chose Nate to be the one to issue the ultimatum. Nate shared that he found out during a confessional when the producer asked about his reasoning behind the request.

Many reality shows will require actors to meet for filming, but these actors chose to do it independently. Coelen shared that many casual get-togethers were planned by the cast members, including the trip to the cellar.

Some cast members worked in bars or restaurants, which made going out even more convenient. A few people in the group are still friends due to the bonds that were formed during filming.
